The McDonald’s Item Everyone Wants — But Can’t Actually Order

  • The Big Mac is officially the most searched McDonald’s menu item, topping search interest in 47 states and Washington, D.C., according to a new report.
  • The discontinued Snack Wrap is the most searched discontinued item, averaging over 33,000 monthly searches and leading in 48 states.
  • McDonald’s is celebrating its 85th anniversary, and the report highlights both current favorites and nostalgic demand for discontinued items like the Snack Wrap, which is set to return in 2025.

The Golden Arches hold a special place in American culture, beckoning us with early-morning hashbrown runs and hot fries after a long day. Believe it or not, the iconic fast-food chain is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year.

In honor of the milestone, a new comprehensive report sheds light on McDonald’s most beloved menu items — past and present — and confirms what many fans already know: the long-lost Snack Wrap still has a devoted following. The report, released by VegasInsider, a Florida-based sports betting platform, analyzes Google search trends with a detailed, state-by-state breakdown.

Unsurprisingly, the Big Mac continues to reign supreme. In 47 states, including the District of Columbia, the double-decker burger was the most searched item currently on the menu. (As a refresher, the Big Mac was first introduced in 1967 by early franchisee Michael James “Jim” Delligatti.) Meanwhile, residents of California, Hawaii, New Mexico, and Texas were more interested in the Happy Meal, making it the top searched item in those four states.

Both the Big Mac and Happy Meal averaged an impressive 110,000 monthly searches over the past year, according to the report. But search interest wasn’t limited to current offerings — many Americans are looking back fondly at discontinued favorites.

Leading that nostalgia-fueled search traffic is the Snack Wrap. First introduced in 2006, this limited-run item has been off the menu for years but is set to return in 2025. Over the past year alone, the Snack Wrap received more than 33,000 monthly searches, making it the most sought-after discontinued item in 48 states. (Delaware residents searched most for the Chicken Selects, while Idaho showed interest in the Arch Deluxe.)

“With the Big Mac topping searches in most American states for regular menu items and the Snack Wrap leading among discontinued ones, this study highlights what consumers crave most—both now and from the past,” says VegasInsider’s Tobias Fanta in an interview with Food & Wine.

McDonald’s humble beginnings date back to 1940, when brothers Dick and Mac McDonald opened their original San Bernardino restaurant as a “Bar-B-Q” drive-in. It bore little resemblance to today’s streamlined operations, complete with carhops and an expansive menu. Over the decades, the brand has evolved into a global powerhouse, with thousands of locations and a deeply ingrained presence in American life.

Fanta adds, “While the Big Mac cemented its place as a timeless go-to, the Snack Wrap’s surge in interest suggests that discontinued doesn’t mean forgotten. Consumer demand is clear, and the numbers make a strong case for its highly anticipated return.”

To compile the report, VegasInsider used data from Google Trends and Google Keyword Planner over the 12 months leading up to May 2025. They examined 32 current and 40 discontinued menu items, ensuring the inclusion of “McDonald’s” as a keyword where applicable.

So McDonald’s, if you’re listening — consider this our official petition for the Snack Wrap’s comeback.
